2019 was the year when China went from being a “strategic partner” to a “systemic rival” in EU foreign policy doctrine. As international pressure mounts on China regarding Xinjiang, Hong Kong and international trading practices, the EU and China remain each others’ largest and second largest trading partners with much at stake in the bilateral relationship. In this ISDP Forum, Dr. Axel Berkofsky of the University of Pavia and the Italian Institute for International Political Studies will talk about the present and what could be ahead in the EU-China relationship. The event will be moderated by Mr. Julian Tucker, Research Coordinator at ISDP’s Stockholm China Center.
