Welcome to this joint ISDP-KAS (Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung) event to launch the report: “China’s Polar Silk Road Revisited”.

During this in-person event, Larissa Stünkel (Research Fellow with ISDP’s Stockholm China Center) will present the key findings of this year’s ISDP-KAS report on China’s Polar Silk Road. Starting off by outlining the drivers of China’s desire to be present in the Arctic, the presentation then goes on to assess the challenges and opportunities that Beijing faces in the High North. Additionally, the report also highlights the impact of the ongoing war in Ukraine on the further rollout of the Polar Silk Road and what a prolonged conflict might mean for the future of Beijing’s Arctic policy. The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion with Dr. Marc Lanteigne and an open Q&A. Fika (Coffee, Tea & Snacks) will be provided.

Dr. Marc Lanteigne is an Associate Professor of Political Science at UiT – The Arctic University in Norway, specializing in China, East Asia, and Polar Regional Politics and international relations. He previously taught in Canada, China, New Zealand and the U.K.
