Arctic Security: Sino-Russian Cooperation

This research project examines the evolving strategic partnership between China and Russia in the Arctic region and its implications for global security dynamics. The study analyzes how this deepening cooperation challenges existing Arctic governance structures, impacts regional stability, and compels Western powers—particularly the United States and NATO allies—to recalibrate their strategic approaches to the High North.
By asking how does the deepening Sino-Russian cooperation in the Arctic reshape regional security dynamics and challenge the existing international order in the High North? This project aims to develop a comprehensive analytical framework for examining one of the most significant emerging challenges to Arctic security and international order.

The research encompasses multiple interconnected dimensions, such as security and military dimensions, economic and resource aspects, governance and legal frameworks, social and environmental factors.

The research addresses a critical gap in understanding how great power competition manifests in the Arctic theater. By examining the multifaceted nature of Sino-Russian cooperation, this study will contribute to both academic scholarship and practical policy formulation. The findings will inform strategic decision-making processes for Western policymakers and security analysts tasked with responding to evolving Arctic dynamics.
This comprehensive analysis will provide insights essential for understanding contemporary Arctic security challenges and developing effective policy responses to maintain stability and protect Western interests in the High North region.
