Pierre Erik Gunnarsson

Dr. Pierre Erik Gunnarsson is a Senior Research Associate with a long career within EU institutions and Swedish national administration. He is a former Director of Performance Audit at the Swedish National Audit Office, a project leader of major collaborative projects, an alumnus of the Session Europeenne d’armament, a former board member of the Defence Economists Society, and a scholar of the Swedish Defence University, Department of War Studies.

He has conducted performance audits of several flagship defence acquisition projects such as the Gripen programme, conducted force capability reviews, and analysed the operational efficiency of the Swedish total defence. He has also managed international cooperation for more than 20 countries and assumed responsibility for internal audit, evaluation and monitoring within the EU’s foreign assistance and security nexus.

Dr. Gunnarsson’s research focus is on geoeconomics, governance of international assistance, defence and security operations, in particular logistics, acquisition and related accountability.
