Prof. Chen Hong of East China Normal University Visits ISDP

June 29, 2026: On June 25, 2026, the Stockholm China Center had the great pleasure of welcoming Prof. Chen Hong as part of his trip to Stockholm.

Prof. Chen is President of the Chinese Association of Australian Studies, and Director of the Australian Studies Center, the New Zealand Studies Center, and the Asia Pacific Studies Center at East China Normal University in Shanghai. He is a leading expert on China’s perspective on the Global South, China–Pacific Island countries relations, and Australia–China relations.

During the meeting, Prof. Chen introduced his research centers, providing an overview of their work and academic focus. ISDP researchers then engaged in an open and constructive discussion with Prof. Chen, exchanging views on China’s relations with Oceania, the Pacific Island countries, and Indian Ocean affairs, as well as on Europe’s perspectives and role in these regions. The exchange also touched on the broader dynamics shaping engagement among major powers and regional actors across these areas.

Both sides further explored potential opportunities for future cooperation, including possibilities for academic exchange and dialogue between the respective institutions.
