Retired Lieutenant General Chun In-bum said protecting the waterway serves South Korea’s national interests. South Korea depends heavily on the Strait of Hormuz for energy supplies. Last year, the route carried 61 percent of its crude oil imports and 54 percent of naphtha imports.
