Looking back at Professor Ryosei Kokubun’s visit to Stockholm
June 8, 2026: ISDP had the great pleasure of welcoming Professor Ryosei Kokubun, Non-Resident Distinguished Fellow, to Stockholm last week.
During his visit, he took part in the following activities:
- A meeting with H.E. Daniel Wolven, Ambassador, Head of Department for Asia, the Pacific Region, and Latin America in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
- A meeting with Dr Jiayi Zhou and Fei Su from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI)
- A roundtable discussion on “Managing Sino-Japanese ties in the contemporary East Asian context”: During this roundtable, ISDP had the pleasure of welcoming H.E. Mr MIZUKOSHI Hideaki and his First Secretary ISHIDA Mayuka from the Japanese Embassy in Sweden. Following a presentation by Prof. Kokubun on future perspectives of the geopolitical balance in the East Asia region, highlighting the complex relations between China and Japan, ISDP’s members then engaged in had in-depth and significant exchanges on issues such as the Taiwan question, economic ties, and the recent summit between Xi Jinping and Trump.

- A roundtable at the European Institute for Japanese Studies of the Stockholm School of Economics on the subject “Geopolitics in East Asia: US, China, Taiwan and Japan”
- A meeting with MPs from the Committees on Foreign Affairs and Defense

- An Experts’ Take interview with the ISDP interns from the China Center and the Asia Program
