Danylo Stonis

Dr. Danylo Stonis is a Non-Resident Research Fellow with the Asia Program, Stockholm Taiwan Center, and the Stockholm Center for Research and Innovation Security. He holds a Ph. D. in international relations from Matej Bel University in Slovakia and a Master’s degree in Geopolitical studies from Charles University in the Czech Republic.

His research focus includes China-Russia relations, China-Belarus relations as well as security issues in Cross-strait relations. His areas of interest are the security situation in cross-strait relations, cybersecurity, the semiconductor industry, and the use of AI in information, cognitive and cyber warfare. His Ph. D. thesis tackled the measurement of security dilemma intensity between Russia and China. After obtaining his Ph. D., he studied Mandarin at the Czech-Taiwanese Association as well as participated in internships at European Values think tank, 2024 GLOBSEC Forum and summer schools at Prague Security Studies Institute in Czech Republic, Institute of International Relations (Greece) and Future CHOICE Summer School 2026 (Czech Republic). He also presented his research findings at the Central and East European International Studies Association (CEEISA) 2022 Convention (Bratislava, Slovakia) and the XXIX. Annual Conference of the Hungarian Political Science Association at the University of Pécs (Pécs, Hungary). His articles have been featured in various media, including New Eastern Europe, Polish Political Science Yearbook, Czech Journal of Political Science and Stockholm Journal of International Affairs.
