July 30, 2025: Niklas Swanström, ISDP’s Executive Director, was interviewed by SVT about North Korea’s new propaganda resort designed to attract Russian tourists.
According to Niklas Swanström, tourism is important to North Korea for several reasons.
Partly it is about economics and bringing foreign currency into the country, and partly it is about improving North Korea’s image internationally.
“North Korea is a state that has managed to maneuver itself out of total international isolation and is now being used as a tourist destination,” says Niklas Swanström.
