Georgia, Ukraine, and Moldova: What will happen to the Eastern Partnership after the Summit in Vilnius?
On November 28-29, the Joint Declaration of the Eastern Partnership Summit took place in Vilnius, with the purpose of discussing the future of the Eastern Partnership. While Georgia and Moldova took steps closer to signing a free trade agreement with the European Union, Ukraine retreated further from a possible inclusion, which led to the outbreak of violent protests. Mr. Jakob Hedenskog, Ambassador Per Eklund, and Dr. Johan Engvall will each give a short presentation on the current situation and developments in their respective country of expertise, before the floor is opened for questions from the audience. The Panel will be moderated by Svante Cornell, Director of ISDP. This Panel Discussion aims to give an update of the current situation, outline ways forward after the Summit in Vilnius and to give the audience an opportunity to ask questions to our visiting experts.

Ambassador Per Eklund is a Senior Fellow at the Silk Road Studies Program and has previously held the position of Ambassador and Head of the European Union Delegation to Georgia.

Dr. Johan Engvall is a post-doctoral researcher at the Uppsala Centre for Russian and Eurasian Studies and a Research Fellow with the Central Asia-Caucasus Institute & Silk Road Studies Program. His specialization is in the domestic political systems of post-Soviet countries, primarily in Central Asia and the Caucasus.

Mr. Jakob Hedenskog is Deputy Research Director and Head of the Russia Studies Program at the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI). He specializes in Russian foreign policy, the North Caucasus, Ukraine and the other post-Soviet states.
