Climate Change and Environmental Security: The Case of the Pacific Islands
As small littoral states, the Pacific island countries have been on the leading edge of debates concerning climate change and environmental security for many years. However, the best ways of applying the developing branches of environmental security research to the Pacific Islands case are yet to be determined. As is becoming more apparent, interpretations of the environment-security nexus in the Pacific Islands differ considerably between policymakers in the region and external actors. This event aims to explore the extent to which the environmental security approaches have begun to collide with the traditional military (“hard power”) concerns in the Pacific region.
We are honored to welcome Dr. Marc Lanteigne, Associate Professor of Political Science at UiT – The Arctic University of Norway – to this webinar. Larissa Stünkel, Junior Research Fellow with ISDP’s Stockholm China Center, will moderate the event.
