Katja Pomortseva

Katja Pomortseva is an intern at the Stockholm China Center. She is currently in her second year of the Master’s Programme in Chinese Studies at Uppsala University. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Chinese studies from Uppsala University and has completed an exchange year at Peking University, where she continued her studies in the Chinese language.

Her fields of interest include Chinese history, cultural history, and linguistics, with a particular emphasis on the historical and diplomatic relations between Russia and China. Her proficiency in both Mandarin Chinese and Russian has enabled her to gain deeper insights into both cultures. In her Bachelor’s thesis, she explored lexical borrowings from the Russian language into Chinese. She applied historical and political contexts, as well as linguistic methodology to analyze the collected data to understand the contemporary relevance and usage of these loanwords.
