Dr. Gabriela Bernal is a political analyst focused on the Korean Peninsula, based in Seoul. She earned her PhD in North Korean Studies from the University of North Korean Studies in 2024. She also holds an MA in International Peace and Security from King’s College London, an MA in Human Rights from Sciences Po Paris, and a BA in Political Science from Arizona State University.
She previously worked as an analyst at the Korea Risk Group and contributes regularly to major media outlets and think tanks. She is a Non-Resident Fellow at the European Centre for North Korean Studies at the University of Vienna and the founder of Peninsula Dispatch, an online platform where she publishes political and security analysis related to the Peninsula. Her research centers mainly on North Korean foreign policy, inter-Korean relations, and diplomacy on the Peninsula.
