June 17, 2026: On June 8, 2026, the Stockholm Center for South Asian and Indo-Pacific Affairs at the Institute for Security and Development Policy (ISDP) hosted a panel discussion with Dr. Ivan Lidarev, a research fellow at the Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS) at the National University of Singapore (NUS), and Dr. Abhishek Pratap Singh from the University of Delhi. The panel discussion was moderated by Dr. Jagannath Panda, the Head of the Stockholm Center for South Asian and Indo-Pacific Affairs at ISDP.

Dr. Ivan Lidarev and Dr. Abhishek Pratap Singh discussed the current developments in China-India relations and the roles of the two nations in the balance of power in Asia and globally. Following the border clashes over the last decade or so, political trust between the two countries remains fragile, with implications that extend beyond bilateral relations. The experts exchanged insights regarding the implications of China-India relations for such multilateral platforms as BRICS+, the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, and G20. In addition, the conversation explored evolving trade and economic ties between the two countries, highlighting new strategic dimensions emerging in the Indian Ocean maritime domain as well as in critical sectors such as artificial intelligence and green technology.
