Jagannath Panda spoke at the ‘China Challenges and the Indo-Pacific: Prospects for a “Free and Open International Order”’ event at Seikei University

September 16, 2025: Dr. Jagannath Panda, Head of the Stockholm Center for South Asian and Indo-Pacific Affairs, delivered a keynote speech at the ‘China Challenges and the Indo-Pacific: Prospects for a “Free and Open International Order”’ event at Seikei University, Japan, held on 12-13 September 2025. This event was co-organized by Seikei University with support from the Yokosuka Council on Asia-Pacific Studies and the Japan Association of Global Governance.

Prof. Rory Medcalf of the National Security College, Australian National University, was the other keynote speaker of the event. H.E. Mr. Reiichiro Takahashi, the former Ambassador of Japan to Australia, moderated this event. This event was followed by a closed-door interaction. The event at Seikei University was attended by several diplomats, scholars, experts, and journalists. Critical issues like China’s future foreign policy towards Indo-Pacific, Trump’s effect on East Asia and beyond, China-Japan, China-India, and China-maritime issues dominated the discussion, among other issues.
