ISDP participated in a workshop on Peace and Security Governance and a seminar on Research and Education Security at CISAD

October 9, 2025: Niklas Swanström, Executive Director, and Yi-Chieh Chen, Project Manager and Junior Research Fellow, participated in a workshop on Peace and Security Governance and a seminar on Research and Education Security at the Centre for International Studies and Development (CISAD), Jagiellonian University, Krakow.
The first workshop focused on the Handbook on Peace and Security Governance. This event provided an opportunity for the handbook’s authors to exchange ideas and discuss contributions to the publication.
In addition, Niklas Swanström led a Research and Education Security (RES) workshop.
In the RES workshop, Niklas Swanström explored the issues of Research Security in both Taiwan and Europe, focusing on the need to find the balance between scientific openness and national security in an era of strategic competition. He emphasized the significance of this challenge in safeguarding sensitive research and intellectual property from potential exploitation.
Yi-Chieh Chen’s contribution elaborated on Taiwan’s situation regarding espionage and trade secrets, and how these issues are addressed within the island’s legal framework. She presented specific cases to illustrate how these challenges manifest in practice, with a specific focus on the tech industry. In particular, she highlighted TSMC’s most recent case of leakage of trade secrets, exploring the company’s unique model for handling such incidents.
The event brought together experts on security, governance, and development from inside and outside of Poland. Over the two days, we conducted multiple panels and discussion sessions on the future publication.
