Overview
The project's primary research themes are the promotion of South Asian peace processes ranged from conflict management training to exploring the intersection between religion and politics in India, Pakistan. The researchers involved in the South Asia project possess both hands-on diplomatic experience of the South Asian region as well as decades of research on the country. ISDP also has a wide local network that assist with local reporting in our research projects.
Since 2007, ISDP's Asia Program has organized a series of seminars in India and Pakistan on the topic of the "Political Roles of Religious Communities". The participants included politicians, researchers, and lawyers from all across these two countries. We are also an ongoing project on capacity building in conflict management in Nepal which has resulted in numerous seminars and workshops on conflict management for different groups representative of political society in Nepal such as politicians, civil society and the military.
For the future, the project will expand to other issues in the region, such as building confidence, prevention of conflict through collaboration on non-military security issues, and assessing the rise and implications of India as a global power.
