Dr. Jagannath P. Panda

Associated Fellow

Dr. Jagannath P. Panda is Research Fellow (rank of Associate Professor) at the premier Institute for Defense Studies and Analyses (IDSA), an autonomous body of the Govt. of India, New Delhi. His research interests are: China's engagement with International Institutions, Sino-Indian Relations, Tibet, and China in South Asian politics. He is also the Managing Editor of Peace and Development Digest of the Foundation for Peace and Sustainable Development, New Delhi. Prior to joining at IDSA, Dr. Panda worked as Centrally Administered Fellow (CAF) at the Indian Council for Social Science Research (ICSSR), Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India, New Delhi, India. He received his doctoral degree from the School of International Studies (SIS) of the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi in 2006-07. He is a recipient of the V.K.KrishnaMenon memorial Medal for his excellent academic record in international law and diplomacy from the Indian Society of International Law (ISIL), New Delhi.

His writings have been published in various peer-reviewed journals like: Strategic Analyses (Routledge), China and Eurasia Forum Quarterly (Silk Road Studies), China Report (Sage) etc. He has also published in other international and national journals/newspapers like: China Brief (Jamestown Foundation), Taiwan Journal (Taipei), World Focus, Mainstream, The Pioneer, The Hindu etc. Dr. Panda was a STINT Asia Fellow at the ISDP (Stockholm) from September to November 2010 (three months). He was also an institutional fellow at the Shanghai Institute for International Studies (SIIS), Shanghai from June 2009 to September 2009; and a visiting Professor at the National Chung Hsing University, Taichung, Taiwan from May 2010 to July 2010. He has worked as a lead member on various Task-Force projects from DRDO and Govt. of India on issues related to China and Tibet. He is the author of the book titled- China's Path to Power: Party, Military, and the politics of State Transition (Pentagon Security International; New Delhi 2010).
