Dr. Erica Marat

Associated Fellow

Dr. Erica Marat is an Associated Fellow with the Central Asia-Caucasus Institute and Silk Road Studies Program.

Dr. Marat specializes in organized crime, military institutions, and state-building in post-colonial states, with a special interest in the Central Asian region. She holds a PhD degree from the Graduate School of Social Sciences at the University of Bremen, Germany, and an MA degree in Sociology from the Central European University/University of Lancaster .

Dr. Marat has taught at the University of Bremen in Germany and Tajik-Slavic University in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. She was actively involved in Kyrgyzstan 's private and public sectors, having worked at a Kyrgyz NGO Institute for Regional Studies, Bitel GSM mobile operator, and Ericsson Representative Office in Bishkek. Previously she lived and studied in Kyrgyzstan, the UK, the U.S., Poland and Germany. Dr. Marat publishes in English and Russian, her articles appear monthly at the Arab daily newspaper An-Nahar, based in Beirut, Lebanon. She is fluent in Kyrgyz, Russian, English, and has a good knowledge of French and German.
